The Programme

GirlGuiding is about girls and young women (aged from 5 to 18 years). GirlGuiding offers opportunities for individuals to develop their personality, to be themselves and to grow.

We believe that confidence, self-esteem and an appreciation of the outdoors can be gained through a combination of choice, co-operation and personal challenge.  GirlGuiding is a great way for girls and young women to make new friends and enjoy a range of diverse activities in an environment of positive encouragement and fun.

The programme has changed a great deal over the years in response to the interests and needs of modern girls. One thing does stay the same, girls of all ages work in teams / patrols and through this they learn to make decisions and take responsibility for themselves and others.

Badges and awards give the girls the opportunity to develop personal interests and leadership skills.

GirlGuiding invests in the training and development of leaders. Training covers everything from personal skills, designing a balanced programme, understanding the development of the girls to managing risk.

The programme is organised differently for girls of different ages:
Pippins are 5 - 6 years
Brownies are 7 - 10 years
Guides are 10 - 14 years
Rangers are 14 - 19 years
Lones are 5 - 18 years
Leaders are 17+ years

Logo

The trefoil is the worldwide symbol for GirlGuiding. This design reflects the values, origins and relationship we have the world association (WAGGGS).

The continuous line that make up the leaves and stalk represent the adventurous journey that is GirlGuiding.

The star represents: the flame (of the love of humanity), compass point (pointing the way) and the two stars (the promise and law) that were found on the original trefoil logo. The star also represents the shining example that members set for others. The five points represent the WAGGGS regions.
